Zumobi 1.1 for Windows Mobile Released

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Have you seen Zumobi? This new Windows Mobile application offers a completely unique way to browse the mobile web in format that’s ideal for the small screens of our mobile devices.  Instead of traditional browsing via links and clicking, Zumobi displays a widget with tiles (small squares) representing your favorite web sites.  To “browse” these sites, you zoom in on them – much easier than typing in a URL.  From the application’s configuration menu, you can manage the tiles you want displayed – pulling from categories like humor, finance, news, kids, games, sports, weather, entertainment, and more, but one of the new additions in Zumobi’s latest release is a pretty awesome tool that lets you make your own tiles.  Called the “Tile Wizard,” you can customize a tile’s look-and-feel while pulling in content from any RSS feed.  These user-generated tiles can also be shared with your friends, just like any tile added from the Gallery.  Want to get Zumobi on your Windows Mobile phone?  Just go to http://get.zumobi.com from your device’s browser.

An iPhone-like browser from Makayama: TouchBrowser

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Get iPhone-style internet browsing on your Pocket PC. TouchBrowser lets you control everything using only your fingers. You can type using the large keyboard, glide through web content and scroll through pages with a flick, with full page view.

Tired of Pocket Internet Explorer? Forget about the stylus, the tiny scrollbars and the keyhole view of the internet. TouchBrowser gives you the smooth webbrowsing experience of the iPhone, right on your Pocket PC. It lets you scroll pages with animation and iPhone inertia effects for easy reading.

You can use you finger to move the webpage around the screen, something Internet Explorer can’t do. Websites designed for mobile use can be watched in ‘mobile view’ and full pages in ‘desktop view’.  A built-in navigation aid tells you what section of a page you’re reading, so you never get lost.

A large finger-keyboard lets you enter URLs with ease, or enter Google searches directly from the keyboard. No stylus needed. “

You can see the browser in action on this YouTube video.  Worth checking out!  I wish they had a trial version, though…  it might only be $15 for the software, but I think you should still have the chance to try before you buy…

Evernote is here to replace your brain.

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Evernote Beta (Private Beta at the moment.) A week ago Evernote released their latest creation and it’s not a bog standard software title. This software can be installed on both your home PC or Mac and your converged device, but the exciting thing is that all your information is also available online seamlessly. I have just been given an invite to play with this beta version and I’m looking forward to trying it out. I will be doing a review at a later date. Below I have included some information from the Evernote site to whet your appetite. . .

“We are all constantly bombarded by information, much more than our brains can handle. So, we end up forgetting all sorts of things. With Evernote, you can start capturing all of those experiences, ideas, and memories of your real and digital life that would otherwise slip away. Find it all whenever you need, wherever you are. Every note added to Evernote goes through powerful recognition and indexing servers, which make it possible to find everything. Notes can be found by searching and filtering for:

  • Tags and titles
  • Typed text
  • Text within images
  • Dates
  • Attributes (does the note contain a web clip, an image, audio, handwriting, and more)”

Opera mobile chooses Google for default search

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Opera today made Google™ the default search engine in Opera’s mobile Web browsers. Now anyone using Opera Mobile or Opera Mini can access Google’s powerful mobile search directly from the browser start page, meaning they’ll be able to quickly and easily get the information they need, whenever and wherever they need it.

Google has been the default search option on Opera’s desktop browser for seven years. This new mobile collaboration covers all global territories except Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States, and includes all of Opera’s standard mobile Web browsers.

“Google and Opera have established a valuable relationship over the years and we look forward to continued collaboration on mobile products,” said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera. “With 2008 poised to be the year the mobile Web goes mainstream, Google and Opera are extending this collaboration to give our users immediate access to the quality and convenience of Google’s search results. We’re excited to extend this productive relationship and we hope that the nearly 100 million people using our mobile products will agree.”

Opera Mobile and Opera Mini will both have Google as the default search, effective March 1, 2008.
