How Evernote kept me together during a time of need
Last week, I had to travel to Florida with my wife for her Uncle’s funeral. Along with the funeral, we had the arduous task of handling numerous legal details and loose ends for him as well as her 89 year old grandmother. Evernote was truly instrumental in helping me gather and keep track of the myriad of things I had to deal with (and still am!). I have been a user of Evernote for several months now, but I have to say this instance solidified my appreciation for this service more than ever. Read on after the break for how Evernote helped me keep it all together…
Using my Dell Mini, I created a folder in Evernote just for this occasion and began capturing all sorts of things, from simply typing up text notes to capturing web pages to shooting photos of a variety of things. My thinking was, I was only down there for a few days, so I needed to capture as much information as I could so I could access it once back in Louisville. Granted, I could have captured a good number of these things by simply taking photos with my Touch Pro and using Notes on the device to capture info, but Evernote takes it to the next level. By using the cloud, this information could be easily rertieved from wherever I happened to be - on my device, via my PC, my wife’s PC, heck - anyone’s PC!
For example, yesterday I received a call from an insurance agent for one of Uncle Rick’s policies. Right away, I was able to go to Evernote via my work PC and access the note regarding that policy. Not only was I able to grab info I needed, I also continued to type up notes from our phone call. Once I was home, I was on the phone with my wife’s surviving Uncle, and I quickly accessed those typed up notes via my Touch Pro.
I’ve not had to really search for anything yet amongst all this “Uncle info”, but as this information grows, the incredibly powerful search feature of Evernote will come in handy. And there were numerous documents that I photographed, which are searchable as well, using OCR capability!
Thank you Evernote! You have helped make this difficult task a lot more manageable!
